With leadership comes responsibility. Can you handle it? It's not the end of the world if you can't. Stay open-minded and you'll find your true calling. If you're prepared to take on leadership, welcome to responsibility. Your first duty is to yourself. Know yourself, grow yourself and manage yourself. Do that successfully and you prepare yourself for managing people and situations. The effective management of people and situations is a sure sign of leadership. That is, management driving leadership not leadership driving management. Left unchecked leadership could end up driving out management because leadership is susceptible to self-centredness. When that happens the energy and spirit of the organization end up on life support and invariably die and the organization with them. The solution? More selfless leaders. Because they're not led by ego, management takes precedence. They seek first to understand rather than to be understood. This approach will enable them to learn more as they practice leadership by management. As the great management guru Peter Drucker puts it, "Those who seek to lead but fail to manage will become either irrelevant or dangerous not only to their organization but to society". What do you think?
